Days 5 and 6
White-collard Manakin at La Selva by D.M. Manetz
Day 5
Early morning birding around our lodging followed by breakfast, then on to some of the nice tracts of primary forest on the expansive campus. These include the Monkey Ladder trail and Los Tucanes trail. Here we have chances for a number of forest species, including White Hawk and Snowy Cotinga.
Dinner and lodging are at EARTH.
Day 6
Early morning departure, with breakfast at EARTH or an eatery outside EARTH. We arrive at Rancho Naturalista for some front porch birding or exploring on Rancho trails.
Rancho is a comfortable and iconic birding destination in the Caribbean foothills. With a huge front porch overlooking feeders and plantings you can see dozens of species without leaving your rocking chair! Last year's highlights from Rancho included such sought-after species such as Black-crested Coquette and Bicolored Hawk. After lunch we further explore trails on the property. Toward evening we will hold vigil at the bottom of a steep trail that overlooks a quiet pool where hummingbirds, including the dainty near-endemic Snowcap, and the elusive Tawny-throated Leaftosser regularly come to bathe. Dinner and lodging at Rancho.
