Days 1 and 2

Day 1
Upon your arrival, you will be met by representatives of our ground agent Green Magic Travel for your transfer to the beautiful Hotel Bougainvillea. If you arrive early enough we will do some birding in the gardens, which are famous for their artful and elaborate plantings and provide an oasis of green in an otherwise urban environment. Many tropical species are common here, along with some less common specialty birds that are more typical of the north Pacific slope, such as Rufous-naped Wren, White-eared Ground Sparrow, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Cinnamon Hummingbird, and Canivet's Emerald. Lunch and dinner are on our own.
Day 2
With an early check-out and departure with boxed breakfast, we head up the slopes to Volcan Poas National Park. Poas is one of Costa Rica's oldest conservation areas, and we have chances for such high elevation species as Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher, Black-and-yellow Silky Flycatcher, Resplendent Quetzal, Firey-throated and Volcano Hummingbirds among many others. With luck we will also see the adorable endemic Poas Squirrel.
We continue down the Caribbean slope, taking time for lunch and a couple of fabulous middle elevation hummingbird stops. From there we descend into the Caribbean lowlands and Sarapiquis Ranforest Lodge for check-in and dinner.
